Message from the President regarding Haiti Earthquake

Japanese Nursing Association (JNA) and I are deeply saddened to hear of the devastating earthquake and its aftermath in Haiti. We are so sorry for the loss of life, injury and difficulties caused by the earthquake. We strongly hope that earliest recovery of the people in Haiti including nurses under through the active support of international relief. Nurses themselves are also vulnerable and needy in such a chaotic situation, although they are expected to take care of the sick and wounded people. Faced by such a situation, International Council of Nurses (ICN), who represents the voice of nurses around the world, has started a donation activity for the restoration of the nurses and nursing in Japan.
Now, JNA has determined to follow the ICN's initiative. Japan has accumulated knowledge and skills through so many cases of disasters or disaster relieves that we have much learned the importance of mutual support of nurses.
May our helping hands reach the Haitian nurses, restoring the nursing and the health of the people in Haiti.
